DEVILDRIVER Guitarist Was ‘Extremely Happy’ With Response To ‘Trust No One’ Album

RAMzine conducted an interview with guitarist Mike Spreitzer of California metallers DEVILDRIVER at this year's edition of the Download festival, which was held June 9-11 at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England. You can now watch the chat below. Speaking about the response to DEVILDRIVER's latest album, 2016's "Trust No One", Mike said: "I was extremely happy because… mainly… This is the first time in the history of the band I got to take on the role of the main songwriter. And I'm gonna brag for a minute, but we sold a thousand more records [in the first week] than we did on the last one. I had a number in mind that was, honestly, three to four thousand units less. And I'm, like, 'If we get this, I'll be happy.' So when I found out we surpassed the last record… 'Cause people aren't buying records like they used to — they're using Spotify. I use Spotify; I hardly ever buy a CD. So I expected things to go down [in terms of album sales], and maybe I shouldn't do that, but I did. But when I saw that it was more, I couldn't be happier. [It was] definitely an awesome day." DEVILDRIVER is currently working on an outlaw country covers album, "Outlaws Till The End", tentatively due in early 2018. The disc will contain thirteen "insanely heavy, swinging badass outlaw tracks by some of the best outlaw country artists," including Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Paycheck, according to singer Dez Fafara. Produced by Steve Evetts, the album will feature appearances by nearly two dozen "high-caliber guests," among them Glenn Danzig, LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe, TESTAMENT's Chuck Billy and guitarists John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE) and Mark Morton (LAMB OF GOD).
